Just returned from a driving trip in the state of Florida and am back home in Tonawanda. I went through six states and every state had gasoline at $2.70 a gallon or less. We are getting ripped off in New York! Write to your congressman.

Looks like the government can’t get it right on the flu shots. Not only can’t we get the H1N1 vaccine, we can’t get the regular vaccine either. I hope if this government insurance goes through, the government does a lot better job, but if this is any indication on how things are going to go, I’d say no to government health coverage.

Way to go, NT! You have a Republican-controlled school board, city council, mayor and county legislative body. If things don’t happen now, who are you going to blame? There’s nobody left.

‘Tis the season for leaf pickups! I’ve noticed in the leaf pickup schedule it states “Do not put leaves in the street.” Driving all around NT, Master, Wurlitzer, all the side streets, I’ve noticed that all the people are putting their leaves in the streets. I think there should be a fine for that.

I don’t know how much more money that this crazy bearded wonder is going to try to steal from us people who can’t afford it. Medicare is going up. We’re not getting a raise and now he wants to make everybody get new license plates and pay all this money. This is ridiculous! They should do something about this governor.

I just read the NT school board approved raises for all teachers. Are these people crazy? I would vote every school board member out.

Now that Tonawanda is looking for another athletic director why don't they hire Coach Santorio away from Grand Island and make him a Teacher on Special Assignment as the AD/Football Coach? Let's face it, we need a football coach and why not hire a real successful one? It seems like his teams are always in the hunt for a sectional championship. We could have a proper burial for the double wing offense. Most importantly, more students would be involved in athletics with a successful, respected coach. He's learned under two THS greats, Gene Masters and Jon Roth.

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that every time the state raises up taxes for regular stores, and for regular brand cigarettes that you have to buy at 7-11, Convenient, or whatever, the cost goes up. But then, the reservation just raises up the price of their cigarettes, and it just puts more profit in their pockets. Government, wake up! All you’re doing is making the Indians richer. So, I feel that they should be paying taxes on cigarettes.

I am perplexed by people complaining about prayer not allowed in schools. We live in a free country in which anyone can pray anytime they want to. Unless the people complaining are actually just upset with the fact that prayer isn’t forced upon everyone in school. When religion ruled the world, we called it the Dark Ages.

Do the school board and teachers of North Tonawanda realize that the unemployment rate in Niagara County is more than 10 percent? Apparently not. And what is this quote from our superintendent: “It will continue to ensure that our students are provided with a first-rate education.” Does that mean if teachers are not paid continually more and more money, they are not going to continue to educate our children? I think not, but that’s the problem with education: Just throw more money at the teachers and things are supposed to get better.
