Tonawanda News — I see in today’s paper the canal concert series in Lockport is being canceled. Let’s bring them back to Gateway Harbor like they used to be and help the businesses downtown.

A government of the people, by the people and for the people. What a line of garbage. Our politicians, who won’t lose a day’s pay for not doing their job, are willing to shut down the government because they couldn’t get their way. Work for the people, not for yourselves. Hundreds of thousands of people who go to work every day to make sure this country runs will now be trying to figure out how to feed their children. Did anyone notice that politicians come and go, most without making any measurable impact? Yet people who come to work each day and grind out 40-plus hours a week and are the real ones keeping this country going will be the ones punished by this shutdown? Silver spoon clown politicians. Canada might be screwed up too but it’s starting to look like a better place to live than here.

This morning I was driving down North Street in North Tonawanda and was held up for a school bus because a parent was letting their child either text or play a game while the bus doors were open and the very young child was just standing there. He eventually was moving slowly toward the bus but never took his eye off the device. My first thought is, why are the parents letting the child take it to school? With the parents seeing the vehicles behind the bus, make the child put the thing away until he is on the bus? I have patience but not for stupidity like this. It ranks up there with parents letting their kids wait inside the house knowing the bus is coming, even on nice mornings, and they hold up traffic.
