Tonawanda News — I read the Sound Off that was submitted about the violent video games and movies being the cause of all the mass shootings. Apparently the caller listened to the NRA press conference. He did the same thing, it isn’t the gun it is the violence in the games and movies. Guess what? That same NRA and all the gun manufacturers spend millions of dollars for product placement in the same genres that they are attacking!

To the “obviously” intelligent person that thinks that the president wants everyone to be equal, stop talking. President Obama wants people to have a “chance” to succeed. There is a big difference but I guess in your little hate-filled brain you aren’t able to figure that out. One more thing, I think it was the founding fathers that said “All Men Are Created Equal”.

A law specifically against gun ownership by mentally ill people is dangerous in itself, as some supporters call for a list to be developed of the mentally disturbed. First, people have done major killings without guns - using knives and bombs, for example. It’s not the guns, but the difficulty in getting dangerous people committed - to protect their rights, the laws went overboard, according to some psychiatrists. The mental health professionals need more leeway in the commitment process as they have the expertise. They don’t need a list. On the other hand, consider that a list could lead to punitive entries and damaging character defamation. Adam’s mother had started the process but the lengthy effort required can mean that the ill person would initiate action. Adam knew and did not want to be committed, said a neighbor. He killed his mother first; doesn’t that tell you who he blamed? She was a volunteer with those children. Any young person who is continually withdrawn loses touch with reality and needs help desperately. Some who do not feel loved turn to unthinkable hatred.
