Tonawanda News — Anyone that knows Mr. Davis knows he is by far the most accurate weather person around. If he runs the city half as good as he predicts the weather, he will be a 100 percent upgrade over who we have in their now!

So the Niagara Military Affairs Council asked the city of North Tonawanda for money. Money was denied last year but this year the mayor says we should give at “least some money for the cause.” Seriously? Last year wasn’t good enough but since this is an election year it is good enough?

I would like to believe that the Chamber of Commerce to politically neutral. The citizen of the year is running for political office. The citizen has done many great things for the community and deserves the award but not in the year in which a political office is a possibility. The award is like a free advertisement.

How about more “editorial” columns in the left side column by the staff at the Tonawanda News? Why all this canned stuff from other papers? Eric DuVall could do a much better job than most of those you use and should be able to make them relevant to the Tonawandas.

In Friday’s paper someone wrote about Blue Cross Blue Shield increases. Put the blame where it belongs — on the insurance company. They raise their rates every year and lower the benefits. Don’t blame the president. He has nothing to do with an insurance company’s greed.

The next time you run into a Niagara County legislator, thank them for the fine job they provide for us. Niagara County: Population 215,000; 523 square miles of land; 15 legislators; tax rate, $8.35 per $1,000 assessed value. Erie County: Population 919,000; 1,043 square miles of land; 11 legislators; tax rate, $5.03 per $1,000 assessed value. Second highest taxed county in the country. It takes a lot of hard work to maintain such a status.

We just went through the Congress’s charade of a shutdown which cost taxpayers millions of dollars. Why not lay off Congress with no pay and rehire them for the three days before the next budget deadline? They only work best when the chips are down.
