Tonawanda News — To the person who keeps complaining about the Dollar Tree store, I go there weekly and I love the store. I love all the new things they have. They get inventory to be put away and the hardworking, attentive people who work there. If you think it’s too dirty, you don’t like the cigarette butts and think the windows need to be washed, why do you go there?

The way it was raining this morning and driving on some of the side streets in North Tonawanda, I really think the city should investigate the sewer system. A lot of these side streets, North Avenue and some of the Avenues, Ruie Road, they were flooded because of the rain. That shouldn’t happen. If you have a good sewer system you shouldn’t have flooding on your streets.

I’m calling in for the people blaming Rick Davis and the new council for these places going out of business. The city doesn’t own these little plazas we have downtown. Developers own them. Mighty Taco had to leave because their corporate office wants all of Mighty Tacos to have drive-thru service and there wasn’t enough room over where they were. If you want to yack at the mayor for something he isn’t in charge of, it isn’t right. He’s trying to clean up eight years of Pilozzi’s junk.

Don’t you just love the teachers of North Tonawanda who get up at a board meeting and ask the board not to cut anymore programs when in fact they’re asking not to contribute to their medical coverage like the rest of the world does. They can’t do that? Give me a break. Teachers, wake up. It’s the real world.

The guy with the Time Warner item in the paper, I agree. It has irritated me for a long time. Also, the mummy advertisement for the Buffalo museum, I think it is in poor taste.

I’d like to get a job at the Dollar Tree store in Mid-City Plaza. We were waiting in the parking lot for a friend. We were there for 45 minutes. The young kid they had working there had four cigarette breaks within that time period. Of course he threw them on the ground where they haven’t been picked up since day one. That’s not bad for a job. He was outside for 15, 20 minutes. Not bad for a payroll.

Wonderful to see Councilperson Koch is having another Council on Your Corner. She understands what it means to represent the people. I won’t miss this one.

Here’s an idea for all these people who love to roll through stop signs: Gated stop signs. The gate will be down until you pull up to the stop line, then the gate will rise, therefore you have to stop and wait for the gate to rise. In case the gate malfunctions there could be an emergency switch. Of course you would have to get out of your car but it wouldn’t come down until your car goes through. Just an idea for all these people who like rolling through stop signs.
