To the poor driver who doesn’t know enough to ask the motor vehicle bureau about traffic rules instead of contacting a newspaper column: The expressway to nowhere that cut the Tonawandas in two decades ago created a negative situation for area residents. Division Street is a residential street. When you make a right or left turn from any street, you are supposed to turn into the same lane you are in and then only move to the right or left after “yielding” to traffic already in those lanes. The “yield” signs on Division Street apply to those exiting the expressway as well as the drivers already using Division Street. YOU are supposed to exit onto the lane at the left and YIELD to any traffic already in the right lane using Division Street for through traffic as the street it is. Drivers using Division Street as a street generally know they have to watch out for fools who think they have a right to drive immediately into the through traffic.
