The Tonawanda News

Tonawanda News — I just wanted to say thank you to the many people who attend the Sunday summer evening concerts at Niawanda Park. It’s a beautiful setting with a lot of great music and performers. I urge the public to support these concerts so that they may continue. The parks department deserves a pat on the back for a job well done. Looking forward to next year.

I would like to enlighten Bob Confer in regards to education: He claims that science, math, engineering and technology need to be our focus as far as education is concerned. Perhaps Mr. Confer would like to explain why his party keeps trying to cut education funding. Republicans and conservatives want to gut funding for research and education. They claim that the private sector should take the lead on this. Quick fact: There isn’t one private company that would invest the amount of money needed to fund research. What is needed are partnerships between the private sector and the government. The president understands the roles of both the private sector and the government play in our economy, too bad the Republicans don’t.

I’ve read repeatedly about someone that calls every day but can’t reach the North Tonawanda police on the phone. I had my car struck in front of my house last week, dialed the phone number and listened to the options and talked to the dispatcher. I later found out that someone I knew struck my car and needed to cancel their investigation and called back and talked to someone in their records office. No problem with the phone. Maybe the other person just doesn’t know how to listen and push the right button?
