Tonawanda News — It was cold and we had snow. Not much different than the 65 winters I’ve seen in Western New York. Sometimes you get hit hard, sometimes you get off easy. I have to say how ridiculous the constant weather updates were. Do we need to try to create fear or have we become so soft that we need to fear any weather we get? Warnings to not go outside, yet all the news stations had reporters driving to show us how deadly driving is.

Several days ago someone commented and wanted an explanation of how to tell their children to respect the law when police officers “run” stop signs and turn on their red lights to get through intersections while I have to stop other than “they’re special?” Well, I have an answer for you.  “I don’t know why the officer did that but I’m sure there must be a logical explanation.” Or maybe, “Perhaps he/she was responding to a call that requires stealth and an element of surprise to address the situation.” Or how about, “I don’t know honey, but I sure am glad they are out there every day 24/7 keeping all of us safe.”

In regards to Barbara Tucker’s Saturday column regarding free calendars. She made the remark that if you want one and are not afraid to go into a Catholic church, free religious calendars are available at any church. Excuse me? Why would anyone be afraid to go into a Catholic church? The teachings of the Catholic church (and any other religion) are all about acceptance and tolerance. Not bashing people who aren’t regular church goers. Have you ever considered allowing equal time to people with differing opinions? The same with Bob Confer, I can’t count the number of times that I’ve gagged on my coffee reading his latest thoughts.
