Tonawanda News — It’s sad to see so many children killed last week by a crazy gunman. But adding or making new gun laws isn’t the answer. It’s helping the people with mental issues cope with their problem and see that they get proper mental health help. Adding new gun laws make people feel better but does nothing to control a weapon in the hands of a crazy person. If anything there should be a law that teachers, doctors and social services people should be required to report them to some type of agency to be investigated.

For all the crybabies, liberal Democrats that are complaining about the Speaker of the House: Call up your Democratic congressman or woman and tell them to cut the budget before raising anybody’s taxes. I don’t care if you make $1,000 to $1 million, you made it you should keep as much as possible. Stop the freebies and cut the budget first. Cut the budget before raising taxes, plain and simple.

We have people continually throwing rights “guaranteed by the Constitution” in our faces yet they seem to only pick and choose which sections of that Constitution they want to obey. If you read Bob Confer’s columns you’ll realize how free our interpretation has become. He points out several unconstitutional issues each week, but there are some that believe they are entitled and the Constitution be damned. There are those who hide behind the Second Amendment for gun rights. Repeal the amendment. There is a process to do so. Because it was written in the 1700s doesn’t mean all sections are applicable today. At the time it worked for the situation they were addressing; and for the most part even until today. It’s time to change with the times. We’ve created this violent mess, we need to be the ones to fix it.

I live near the house on Shad Street that is always so beautifully decorated every holiday season. They always make it look wonderful. It helps spread so much joy throughout the neighborhood. This year, it is tragic that the next door neighbors ruined it for the rest of us that truly enjoy it. Every time I drive by those neighbors houses, I feel such disgust with them. With all the violence in this world, they need to put differences aside and realize what a great town we live in. I hope that these neighbors can put their anger behind them, apologize, and move forward in the new year. The rest of us in the neighborhood all hope that the house is beautifully decorated again next year!

To the lady on our street that finds it necessary to stare down and yell at the kids playing outside: There are 20 families in Newtown, Conn., that would give anything to hear their kids outside playing and having a good time with their friends. You’re a grandmother. Did you forget what its like to be young and to have fun? Leave the kids alone!
