The Tonawanda News

Tonawanda News — As a Republican, it’s time like this I wish I was a Democrat. My neighbor showed me the mailing Jackie Smilinich sent out. It’s just dirty politicking. I wouldn’t vote for her at all if that’s the way she gets her votes. If I were a Democrat I’d be out there on Primary Day voting against her.

I had to comment on Saturday morning’s Sound Off on 18- to 21-year-olds having to hide in garages because they couldn’t legally drink. Seriously? You’ve got to be kidding. I can only wonder what kind of families they are if everybody has to drink to socialize with one another. How very sad and disturbing.

So these politicians in the City of Tonawanda want to close part of Young Street down so that bar can have people park in there? I’d like to have part of Morgan Street closed down. I have company in the wintertime and in the spring and they have nowhere to park. Think you can do that?

The person Aug. 21 who wants their bike returned that was stolen and even gave the lock combination, why wasn’t it locked up in the first place?

Where are you? I’m a resident at a local nursing home. You said you would visit me. I’ve been here for two years. You say you are a Christian. Christians visit people. Are you sure you are a Christian?

I enjoyed the article written by Donna Neal written last week about the carrousel museum. Also, a little trivia. Do you know the different between a carrousel and a merry-go-round? A carrousel goes counter-clockwise and a merry-go-round goes clockwise. Just thought you’d like to know that little bit of information.

Has anybody else been approached at Gratwick Park by an undercover Homeland Security officer? I’m just curious who you would call to see if his credentials are real of if he’s just goofing around. Was anybody else approached at Gratwick Park by an undercover Homeland Security officer? Thanks, Sound Off.

Once again someone wrote into Sound Off complaining that all the recycleable material is being dumped into the back of a regular garbage truck. I am kind of grateful to them, as it gives people another opportunity to become aware of the new ways recycled material is handled. Yes, it is all going into a single truck but that is because it is now sorted at the recycling plant. This is a great cost savings for our towns. No longer do the public works employees have to take the time to put the material in separate compartments, making the amount of time spent picking up the waste shorter. More material is being recycled. If a container has the recycle symbol you can put it in your bin. No more figuring out if cardboard has a wax coating, even take out containers, just put it in your bin. Check with your local government as to whether things like pizza boxes are allowed. I urge all of us to recycle more and check your facts before complaining.
