HS ROUNDUP: Allen sparks lacrosse Mustangs past Lakemen

Staff reports

WILSON Cody Allen scored eight times on Thursday, leading the visiting Medina Mustangs to a 17-7 Class C boys lacrosse victory over Wilson.

Eric Blount added a three-goal hat trick for the Mustangs.

Medina (4-4) outscored the Lakemen 10-2 in the second quarter.

Kyle Lacey netted two goals and added two assists for the Lakemen (1-6).

Kevin Walch had two goals and Jordan Gelnett scored his first varsity goal for Wilson.

H.S. Baseball

NT 9, Lockport 1

Mike Puscheck threw six innings of two-hit, shut-out baseball and added a pair of RBIs at the plate for the Jacks (5-5 overall, 3-3 NFL).

Jake Chenez scored the lone run in the seventh inning for the Lions (3-8, 1-4 NFL).

N. Falls 9, N-Wheatfield 8

Jake Lysiak drew a walk with the bases loaded to cap the wild win at Sal Maglie Stadium.

Adam Grace tied the game for the Wolverines (8-4 overall, 2-3 NFL), leading off the bottom of the seventh with a double, then scoring on an error.

The Falcons (5-6, 3-2) rallied for six runs with two outs in the top of the seventh to up 8-7. Matt Attfield went 5-for-5 for N-W, while Chris Gruarin had three hits.

Lew-Port 16, Ken West 1

Matt Cattarin took a no-hitter into the sixth inning for the Lancers (6-5 overall, 3-2 NFL), who are coached by Lockport’s Mark Waple.

Cattarin went the distance, allowing only two hits and striking out seven. At the plate, Tyler Magliazzo had three hits and four RBIs and Jeremy Willard had two hits, including a triple, and four RBIs.

West (1-4) scored its lone run on a sacrifice.

Grand Island 10, Ken East 2

Matt Klock allowed seven hits, one earned run and struck out 11 to help the Vikings improve to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the NFL.

Marvin Pawlowski led GI’s offense with a three-run home run, while Chris Podlucky and two RBIs. Neil DeMartin, Matt Klock and Joel Klock all added two hits apiece.

Cody Novo and Kevin Whitehead each had two hits for East (5-2, 3-2).

CSAT 5, Medina 4

The Charter School For Applied Technologies rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up its first-ever N-O win.

CSAT hurlers Ray Betmers and Kyle Kobza combined to throw a four-hitter for CSAT (1-4 N-O).

Jamie Washak had two RBIs for the Mustangs (3-2).

Akron 7, Barker 3

Nick Cummings pitched a five-hitter with 17 strikeouts to lead Akron (3-2 N-O), which got three hits from Tyler Gabbey.

Barker fell to 2-3.

H.S. Softball

NT 6, Lockport 2

Sarah Hansen had three hits, including a pair of triples, and three RBIs to lift the Lady Jacks. Natalie Hils added two hits, while Allie Gibson threw a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out nine for NT (5-3 overall, 4-2 NFL).

Lockport fell to 0-6 in the NFL.

Niagara Falls 4, N-W 2

Holly Conte threw a three-hitter with five strikeouts to help the Wolverines to the NFL win. Nikki Kraft had two hits and an RBI and Lenee Gray added two extra-base hits for NFHS (4-1 NFL).

Angela Elliott had an RBI and Michelle Maggard had two hits for N-W (6-4, 2-2).

Ken West 16, Lew-Port 10

Sarah Borgenicht led West’s attack with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored as it improved to 4-1 in the NFL.

For Lew-Port (3-9 overall, 1-5 NFL), Janeanne LePage had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Katherine Petrozzi added a home run and two RBIs in the loss.

Grand Island 4, Ken East 1

Amber Hultgren went the distance in the circle, striking out five to lead the Vikings (6-1 overall, 4-1 NFL).

Emily Mills and Alex Dickson each had two hits for the Bulldogs (3-3).

Cheektowaga 16, Starpoint 8

Danielle Lanternier hit two home runs and a double for the Lady Spartans.

Boys Track

Akron 92, Wilson 44

Lee Asbeck doubled in the 110 and 400 hurdles, Josh Cory in the 100 and 200 and Joe Halleck in the shotput and discus to lead Akron (2-1 N-O).

Don Truesdell won both the 1,600 and 3,200 for Wilson (1-2 N-O).

Newfane 106, Barker 32

Local martial arts standout Adam Irr tripled in the pole vault, triple jump and 400 and Nick Pardee doubled in the 1,600 and 3,200 for Newfane (2-1 N-O).

Robert Adams won both the long and high jumps for Barker (0-4 N-O).

Girls Track

Akron 87, Wilson 54

Chelcie Gramza doubled in the 200 and 400 for Akron (2-1 N-O).

Becky Henning took both the long and triple jumps for winless Wilson.

Newfane 74, Barker 63

Rachel Parker was a triple winner in the 400 hurdles, 1,500 and 3,000 for Newfane (2-1 N-O).

Barker’s outstanding all-around athlete, Emma Dewart, was a four-time winner in the 200, long jump, triple jump and high jump for the winless Lady Raiders.

Boys Tennis

Lockport 5, Grand Island 0

Senior Evan Breloff remained unbeaten at third singles for Lockport, which improved to 7-1 in the league.

The Lions’ second doubles team of Andrew Granchelli and Alex Schwartz overcame a loss in the first set to beat Grand Island’s Darren Delsignore and Todd Kunze.

Andrew Smist (first) and Matt DiTullio (second) also posted singles wins for head coach Dave Shambach’s team. Rounding out the LIons’ winners Thursday was the first doubles tandem of Brandon Pawlinski and Kevin Miller.

Grand Island dropped to 1-6 in the NFL.

N. Falls 5, N-Wheatfield 0

Matt Thompson of NFHS (4-2 NFL) continued his strong play at second singles, beating Adam Clabo.

The visiting Falcons fell to 2-4.
