BOYS LACROSSE: Falcons fly by Lumberjacks

North Tonawanda boys lacrosse coach Derrick Rose cautioned that there was still plenty of work for his team to do before it can be a consistent contender in Class A. That proved to be true Friday afternoon against Niagara-Wheatfield.

The Falcons (10-3 overall, 7-0 Class A) had four different players score at least four goals on their way to a 25-1 win at the Lumberjacks Sports Complex. Kyle Henry led the way with five goals, while Emmett Printup, Nate Capton and Dave Evert all had four goals. Chad Leadingfox also had a hat trick for Niagara-Wheatfield.

“It was a good effort,” Niagara-Wheatfield coach Vince Schiffert said. “You always want to play strong. We moved the ball really well and had a chance to give some guys who don’t normally play a lot some good minutes.”

The Falcons were in control from the start, leading 8-0 after the first quarter and 17-0 at halftime. NT goalie Aaron Roy put in a solid effort, but had little chance on several shots. The Falcons displayed great ball control and superior passing in the win.

“Not playing full games in Class A ball isn’t going to get you very far,” Rose said. “Especially this game is probably going to be very disheartening.”

Alec Lemanski had the lone goal for NT (3-8, 1-5) assisted by Eric Huk. Julian Fauzui and Joe Grady split the win in net for the Falcons.

“A lot of times when you’re playing these big teams, you just have to find the heart and the drive, and it just didn’t kick in until the last quarter,” Rose said.

Niagara-Wheatfield travels to Orchard Park for a matchup of two of Western New York’s premier programs at 5 p.m. Tuesday, while NT next heads to Lockport at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
