BOWLING: Leighton Jr., Vitagliano roll 300s in USBC-BA Tournament

In the team event at the recent Niagara Falls United States Bowling Congress Tournament, the VJ Smokers squad was victorious with a total score of 3,700. They were led by Rob Leighton Jr.’s 300 game, with Vern Jacobs, John Hayes, Jerry Casero Jr. and Jerry Casero Sr. coming out on the winning end. In second place was Team “Left Out” with a score of 3615, Russell Five came in third with 3502, the Alley Gators finished fourth with 3432, and Bowl-O-Drome ended in fifth with 3419. Bobby Vitagliano also rolled a 300 during this team event. Low score to cash was 3378 with handicap.
Art Gertz and Mark Dominguez Sr. were the champions of the doubles event, racking up a 1544 total pinfall. The duo of Dave Wakeman and Ryan Govern finished in second with 1518, and Harold Healey and Kevin Klinger Jr. took third place with their 1513 total. Low score to cash for this event was 1437 with handicap.
Klinger Jr.’s 845 handicap total pinfall gave him first place in singles action. Jason Meinhart had a 790 to take second, and Mike Klis had a 781 to round out the singles event. Low score to cash was 727 with handicap.
Klinger Jr. continued his success by taking the title in the doubles/singles combine event with an overall score of 1618. Jacobs had a 1511 to take hold of the second spot, and Meinhart and James Boos tied for third with their 1510s. Low score to cash was 1451 with handicap.
Jacobs’ 2264 made him champion of all events, with Steve Kosut’s 2259 giving him second place. Meinhart had a 2233 for third. Low score to cash was 2176 with handicap.
