GOLF: Montesano chips in for Carly's Club with 100 holrs

With the “Chip in for Carly’s Club” 100 Holes Golf Tournament coming up a week from today at the Westwood Country Club, one man is really going to be ready to spend some time out on the fairway.
Grand Island resident Ron Montesano will be competing in this year’s event on Sheridan Drive, and trying to raise as much money as possible for Carly’s Club.
Chip In For Carly’s Club is currently in its third year of existence. The tourney was founded by Stuart Scheff of Scheff Insurance. Participants play 100 holes in a day to raise money for cancer research.
Raising money for a good cause, and playing golf was right up Montesano’s ally, being the coach of the girls golf team at Nichols’ High School
“It’s a tremendous cause,” Montesano said. “I lost two colleagues to cancer in the past five years and just lost a neighbor this spring. Cancer is such an insidious disease that we need to keep fighting for a cure.”
And there’s no shortage of kindness in Montesano, as charity is a big part of his life. He currently runs BuffaloGolfer.com, a website dedicated to both golf and charity, and has ridden in the Ride For Roswell bike ride since its inception, one of only ten or so people that can make that claim. He plans to be riding in the event again this year.
Currently, Montesano has raised about $1,400 for his golfing competition and would like to raise more.
“Support from anyone would be greatly appreciated,” Montesano said.
“Anyone in the public can donate money by going to www.carlysclub.org and clicking on the Chip In Link about halfway down the page. Click on my name, Ronald Montesano, or any name you see that you know.”
“Cancer has had effects on many lives in many families,” Montesano said. “ I myself will be playing in the tournament in tribute to my friends Wendy Wolf and Tom Cawley, who have both lost their lives to cancer.”
So if you happen to be golfing at the Westwood Country Club on June 18th and you come across a man named Ron, he’s in for a long day, but stop and thank him, because it could be your life or a loved one that he’s teeing off for.
