Tito Harris hit three 3-pointers in the first half as visiting South Park came away with a 66-59 win over the Cardinal O’Hara boys basketball team in a non-league game Thursday night.
Harris finished the game with 19 points, while Rodney Rodgers added 13 for South Park (3-2).
James Ewing had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Hawks (2-2). Garrison Gross had a team-high 17 points and six assists.
“Our turnovers killed us and we couldn’t capitalize on their turnovers,” Cardinal O’Hara coach Sil Dan said.
Depew 76, Niagara Catholic 59
Depew shot 7-of-11 from 3-point range in the first half, then was able to protect the lead to get the victory over Niagara Catholic in the ECIC/MMAA Challenge at St. Mary’s of Lancaster on Thursday.
The loss knocked the Patriots from the ranks of the unbeatens, as they fell to 6-1.
Adam Jachimiak led the offense for the Wildcats, hitting four 3-pointers on his way to 20 points. Paul Nieman added 14 points in the win.
Niagara Catholic got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Dyrell Dolson. The Patriots also got 14 points from Jeremiah Jones and 10 points from A.J. Roberts.
Depew improved to 6-0 with the win.
Girls Basketball
Starpoint 55, Depew 47
Amanda Boron had a game-high 24 points and added 15 rebounds to lead the host Spartans past Depew in ECIC III action.
Boron added three blocks in the win.
“That was the best game I’ve seen her play,” Starpoint coach Marisa Gallo said.
Jeanette Dumais added 14 points and eight rebounds in the win for Starpoint (5-2 overall, 2-1 ECIC III). Andi Ridge drew her eighth charge in seven games for the Spartans.
Depew (4-2, 2-2) got 22 points from Jordan Schrimmel.
Sweet Home 50, Orchard Park 41
Ellie Allen led the visiting Panthers with 19 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in the win.
Sweet Home (2-4, 2-1 ECIC I) also got 15 points and 11 rebounds from Kiaya Burks and six points and nine rebounds from Nadia Durno.
The Panthers went 9-of-14 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Orchard Park was led by Mandy Sahhar and Elizabeth Holly, who finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Boys Bowling
Lew-Port 5, Niagara Falls 2
The host Lancers got a 255-653 from Kyle Donovan to stay undefeated.
Mike Grannis rolled a 231-646 for the Lancers (5-0), while Jeremy Janese fired a 247-641 at Frontier Lanes. Zane Tester added a 243 for Lew-Port.
Jake Hayes led Niagara Falls (4-1) with a 277-645, while Frank Porter chipped in a 222 game. David Zajac shot a 218 for the Wolverines.
The Lancers won the pin count 3,690-3,384.
Grand Island 4, Niagara-Wheatfield 3
Ross Aydelotte shot a team-high game of 259 on his way to a 692 series to lead the Vikings to victory at Rapids Bowling Center.
Jason Davis added a 233-637 for Grand Island (2-3), while Brandon Digati had a 246-631 in the win.
Brandon Smith led Niagara-Wheatfield (2-3) with a 241-691. Andy Donner fired a 249-625 in the loss.
Total pins were 3,702-3,698 in favor of Grand Island.
Ken West 6, North Tonawanda 1
Rob Gatas bowled a 696 series that included a 277 game at Manor Lanes to lead the Blue Devils . West (3-2) also got solid scores from Rob Kerr (246-674), Adam Robson (225-657), Ron Ricketts (217-625).
Eric Conlan (213-610) and Wes Thompson (224-617) led NT (1-4).
Total pinfall was 3,736-3,226 in favor of West.
Lockport 4, Kenmore East 3
Jamison Neglia shot a 258-667 to lead the host Lions to victory at Allie Brandt Lanes.
Adam Ritz added a 244-629 for Lockport (2-3), while Adam Jozwiak had a 625.
Kenmore East was led by Tom Haase, who had a 717 series on the strength of individual games of 227, 254 and 235.
Josh Grabowski added a 601 for the Bulldogs (0-5).
Totals pins went 3,580 to 3,496 for Lockport.
St. Francis 2, St. Joe’s 1
Ted Chojecki led the Red Raiders with a 243-657 as St. Francis came away with the win at Thruway Lanes.
Corey Wells added a 225-631 for St. Francis (19-5).
Mike Shaw shot a 235-652 for St. Joe’s (20-4), while Pat Bishop added a 235-652.
Total pins were 2,971-2,815 St. Francis.
The Marauders are now off to Jan. 4.
Girls Bowling
Niagara Falls 6, Lew-Port 1
Teresa Ricotta shot a 223-619 to lead the Wolverines to victory at Frontier Lanes.
Alyssa Narkiewicz added a 255-597 for Niagara Falls (2-3).
Lew-Port was led by Savannah Zientara, who finished with a 230-622. Tabitha Dominguez added a 203 for the Lancers (2-3).
Total pins were 3,112 to 2,872 in favor of NFHS.
Niagara-Wheatfield 4, Grand Island 3
Marisa delZalle fired a 213-566 Jay Skurski 12/14/06 last name is right to lead the Falcons to the win at the Rapids Bowling Center.
Sarah Hillman had a 503 for the N-W (3-2).
Tory Eldridge shot a 223-526 for Grand Island (2-3). Nicole Serra added a 213-501 in the loss.
The Falcons enjoyed a 3,011 to 2,962 pin advantage.
Kenmore West 4, North Tonawanda 3
The Blue Devils pulled even with North Tonawanda in the Niagara Frontier League standings thanks to a pair of 203 games from Alicia Farmer (536 series) and Sara Greck (553 series) at Manor Lanes.
NT (3-2) was led by Cayley Enright’s 562 set. West (3-2) won the total pin count, 2,972-2,928.
Lockport 7, Ken East 0
Kerri Meden’s 650 series led the host Lady Lions to victory at Allie Brandt Lanes.
Alyssa Neglia added a 580 for Lockport (5-0), which stayed undefeated.
Lauren Rising had a 216-210-589 for Lockport.
Jessica Stith fired a 194-501 for Kenmore East (0-5).
Total pins were 3,276 to 2,313 for Lockport.
Boys Swimming
Albion 63, Newfane 31
The host Purple Eagles had a trio of double winners, as Mike Hughson (200-yard individual medley, 500 freestyle), Marty Stirk (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke) and Jason Witkop (50 and 100 free) led the way to the win.
The Purple Eagles, which swept all three relays, also got wins from Ben Metcalf (200 free) and Chad Bierdeman (100 backstroke).
Girls Swimming
Albion 66, Newfane 28
Madeline Bensley doubled in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events and Nicole Brooks did the same in the 500 free and 100 backstroke for the host Albion girls, which also got wins from Ellen Reynolds (200 free) and Lisa Bierdeman (100 breaststroke).
Shannon Strong doubled for Newfane in the individual medley and butterfly.
