LITTLE LEAGUES (May 19): Glowacki pitches no-hitter for Red Sox

Staff Reports
The Tonawanda News

In Cal Ripken majors division play at Ramsay No. 1, Zach Glowacki threw a no-hitter to lead the Niagara Rock Climbing Red Sox to a 6-0 win over the Platter’s Chocolate Rays in North Tonawanda American Babe Ruth action. Glowacki struck out 13 and walked just two in the win.

Defensive gems by Jack Mayo at shortstop aided Glowacki. Mayo also contributed a single and a double, as well as two runs scored. Adam Mourgas had two hits and two RBIs for the Red Sox, who improved to 3-0. Also for the Red Sox, Max Belfatto had a single and an RBI and Glowacki doubled.

Mike Gough and Mike Akers combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound for the Rays in the loss.

NTPBA Angels 7, Matt’s Music Orioles 5

In minor division play on field No. 2 at Ramsay, Chaise Haring led the North Tonawanda Police Benevolent Association Angels to the win, finishing with a hit and two RBIs and assisting on the final out of the game. Haring had previously made two solid defensive plays, as well.

The game featured four lead changes before Jacob Lemke put the Angels ahead for good with a sacrifice hit in the third inning. The lead nearly didn’t hold up, as Bryce Sigman hit a hard shot to right-center field with the bases loaded for the Orioles in the bottom of the third. Haring, though, was there to make the inning-ending catch.

Ryan Gilbert played great for the Orioles, reaching base three times, scoring a run and striking out five Angels on the mound.

NTPF Riverdogs 22, CCAH Muck Dogs 5

In rookie division action Saturday at Ramsay, the North Tonawanda Professional Firefighter Riverdogs were led by Gavin Lynch and Collin Rambler, each of whom had four hits, including a double. Cameron Gampp also had three hits for the Riverdogs, who moved to 3-0. Peyton Siegmann was solid defensively in the win, catching two fly balls.

The Companion Care Animal Hospital Muck Dogs, who fell to 3-1, were led by Sean Ferry and Michael Krawczyk, each of whom had three hits.

NT National Little League

NTPF Mets 4, ECOT Braves 2

In the pee wee division at Miller Field, the North Tonawanda Professional Firefighter Mets scored the win over the Exchange Club of the Tonawandas Braves.

Ethan Guthrie and Branden Hooley each went 4-for-4, for the Mets, while Kevin Wojcinski was 3-for-3. Austin Ash and Camryn Barry both hit doubles in the win.

Anthony Brawn had his first hit for the Braves, while Matthew Miller and Adam Ortiz provided great defensive play.
