LOCAL GOLF: Wielgosz, Kaiser win Deerwood club titles

Sue Wielgosz carded gross rounds of 87 and 86 for a total of 173, taking the 2008 Deerwood Women’s Golf Club championship by a comfortable margin recently. Runner-up Carol Totoro shot 97-89-186.
Bonnie Victor was the A Flight champion, shooting 95-95-190.
Joan Gross, Wielgosz’s mother, won the B Flight, shooting 104-97-201, while long-time club member Gwen Daugherty won the C Flight by shooting 118-117-235.
In the nine-hole league, Kay Kaiser’s rounds of 48 and 59 gave her a winning total of 107, followed by Mary Hoffman’s 56-56-112. In the B Flight for the nine-hole ladies, Marion Tapson’s 58-63-121 took first, while Maryann Monte won the C Flight, carding 77-65-142.
In regular medal play of the 18-hole league, Totoro won the A Flight on a match of cards, shooting 89-23-66, besting Joyce Albert’s 90-24-66. Bonnie Victor was third, carding 95-24-71.
In the B Flight, Gross’ 97-27-70 gave her first place, followed by Priscilla Paul’s 100-29-71 and Marilyn Royer’s 107-30-77.
Eileen Balough shot 113-37-76 to take first place in the C Flight, while Daugherty’s 117-38-79 gave her second and Doe Miskele’s 117-36-81 was good for third.
In nine-hole medal play, Shirley Thompson’s 57-18-39 gave her first place in the A Flight. Elaine Franaszek’s 57-16-41 was good for second, while Theo Tinkelpaugh’s 62-16-46 gave her third.
Joan Weber won the B Flight after carding 59-19-40, taking a match of cards over Colleen Poeller, who shot 65-25-40. Priscilla Matthews was third after firing 64-22-42.
Alice Renninger’s 67-29-38 gave her first in the C Flight, while Betty Privitera was second with 71-26-45. Mary Ann Monte took third, shooting 77-28-49.
