HS SPORTS: Pumm leads Tonawanda over JFK, 59-48

Connor Pumm had a double-double for the Warriors (2-3, 1-1 ECIC IV) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Tristian Boling led all scorers with 18 points as the Warriors defeated JFK, 59-48. Ben Stich chipped in eight points and seven steals. The two teams entered halftime tied at 24, but Tonawanda outscored the Bears (0-4, 0-2) 35-24 in the second half.

“We did a pretty nice job pressing them in the second half, which seemed to be a little more effective,” said Warriors coach Henry Hughes. “We played smarter and turned it over less.”

Lockport 73, Grand Island 45

Colin Dougherty scored 18, Ryan Lawrence 17 and Charlie Sobieraski 12 for the Lions, who improved to 3-1 and 2-0 in NFL games. Sophomore Joe Kulikowski led GI (1-3, 0-2) with 13 points.

Niagara Falls 80, Ken East 55

Zach Walker had 25 points and four assists for the Wolverines (1-3, 1-1 NFL), hitting six 3-pointers. Breon Harris struck twice from deep and Jake Martineau hit three times for NF, which totaled 12 triples in the game. Adam Geib led the Bulldogs (1-3, 0-2) with 20 points.

Lew-Port 56, Nia.-Wheatfield 26

Jernard Jackson scored 15 points and Zach Keegan added 13 points and five steals for the Lancers (4-1, 2-0 NFL). Bobby Stevens had only 1 points but grabbed 10 rebounds for L-P. Nate Williams led the Falcons (1-4, 0-2) with five points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lockport 70, Grand Island 33

Sara Franco had 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals, while Kathryn Krchniak added 12 points, five boards and two steals for the Lions (2-0 NFL). Dakaylah Winfield led all scorers with 17 points for the Vikings (0-4, 0-2).

Niagara Falls 56, Ken East 50

Victoria Pryor and Toni Polk paced the Wolverines (4-1, 2-0 NFL), scoring 17 and 15 points, respectively. Junior Bianca Brown added seven points and 10 rebounds, while Pryor dished out six assists. Kiaja O’Neil scored 18 points and Kendall Mills added 12 for the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1).

BOYS SWIMMING

Ken East 54, North Tonawanda 48

Graham Jones (200, 500 freestyles) and Matthew Peiffer (100 flly, 100 back) were double winners for the Bulldogs, while Nick Mallone took the 50 and 100 freestyles for NT.

Nia.-Wheatfield 52, Lew-Port 49

Ryan Monteleone posted the top score in the state this season in diving with a 339 for the Lancers (2-4), while teammate Mitch Sembert won the 200- and 100-meter freestyles. Nathan Erhmann won the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke for the Falcons (4-1).

Lockport 54, Ken West 40

The Lions’ won through depth, only placing first in three events. Justin Sagasta (200, 500 frees) and Shawn Finn (50, 100 frees) were dual winners for the Blue Devils.

Depew 68, Tonawanda 34

Jordan Hughes (100 fly) and Andrew Ball (diving) were the lone winners for the Warriors (0-2 ECIC IV).

HOCKEY

Niagara-Wheatfield 4, St. Joe’s 2

Anthony Vekich scored twice as the Falcons (4-0) defeated St. Joe’s in WNY Federation hockey. Matt Paonessa and Justin Durkee had N-W’s other goals.
