Tonawanda News — FIRST TEAM

Jontay Walton

Year: senior

School: Cardinal O’Hara

The Scoop: Monsignor Martin Athletic Association all-time leading scorer, Walton surpassed the 2,000 point mark and was key figure in Hawks capturing the Class A Federation state title and MMAA regular season and playoff titles. Co-MVP with teammate Keyonte Edwards, who said Walton was “the missing piece” who made them even better.

“She’s such a leader. She works so hard on both ends of the floor. She has been a complete player and like Keyonte said, a great match for us that fit right in and help us go farther than we have the last couple years.”

— O’Hara coach Dan McDermott

Keyonte Edwards

Year: senior

School: Cardinal O’Hara

The Scoop: Senior captain and Co-MVP with Jontay Walton, Edwards blossomed from her role as a defensive specialist to an all-around gem who could do virtually anything on the court. Whatever you needed Edwards could deliver. And she did it all with an outgoing personality that made it fun to come to the gym everyday.

“I couldn’t be more proud of Keyonte. The way she’s developed over these past four years both on the court and off. A great student, a great leader for the team. She sets a great example.”

— O’Hara coach Dan McDermott

Savanna Baughman

Year: senior

School: Tonawanda

The Scoop: In her third year of varsity no other Lady Warriors had greater expectations to up her game and Baughman delivered in a big way. The 5-foot-10 Baughman was a force in the paint who not only held her own but more often then not won the battle over bigger girls. Season highlights include 18 rebounds in Far West Regional game against Bishop Kearney and getting the better of Bennett’s 6-foot-1Dee Barclay in the Class B-1 title game. Baughman’s 246 (10.7 per game) led the Warriors. She also had 23 steals, 12 blocks, 5.9 PPG and shot 55% from line.
