Tonawanda News — Scoop: As a junior, Molik was selected as a second-team Class A offensive performer. He anchored the offensive line at left tackle and plugged up the middle on defense for a Lumberjacks defense that improved throughout the season.

Jon Zellner, North Tonawanda

Stats: 47 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, 1 field goal block, 798 rushing yards, 9 rushing TDs.

Scoop: Class A defensive first-team selection. Zellner was the work horse for the Jacks, running between the tackles for tough yards on offense and punishing opposing RB’s and QB’s on the defensive side of the ball. A true leader and inspirational player for NT.

John Bortz, Kenmore West

Stats: 35 tackles, 2 sacks.

Scoop: Bortz was a second-team Class AA defensive selection. He helped carry the Blue Devils to a semifinal appearance in the Section VI playoffs against Jamestown.

Kurt McGowan, Kenmore East

Stats: 55 tackles, 390 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs.

Scoop: The senior was a first-team Class A defensive selection. He was a stabilizing force on a tough Bulldogs defense that featured playmakers in all levels of the unit. 

LINEBACKER

Rod Payne, St. Joe’s

Stats: 45 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 172 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs.

Scoop: The senior led the Marauders in every defensive statistical category before seeing his season cut short due to injury in Week Six. Standout performance with 10 tackles against Aquinas in Week Four.

Preston Smith, Kenmore East

Stats: 20 tackles, 1 interception, 696 rushing yards, 4 rushing TDs, 152 receiving yards, 2 receiving TDs, 1 passing TD.

Scoop: The senior was a first-team Class A offensive selection. He was a leader on both sides of the ball for the Bulldogs and his athleticism really showed with his versatility on offense.

Paul Palladino, Tonawanda

Stats: 74 tackles, 1 interception.

Scoop: A Class C defensive second-team selection, Palladino was one of the Warriors emotional leaders. his toughness and heart helped form the identity of a tough Tonawanda defense.
