Ransomville Speedway season opens tonight

Tonawanda News — While the snow was flying this winter, the folks at Ransomville Speedway were busy putting together a 2014 schedule that included the return of one of the northeast’s most popular dirt track series, the Super DIRTcar Big Block Modified Series.

Tana Robinson, Marketing and Public Relations director for Ransomville Speedway, lists the return of the Big Blocks to the Alex Friesen SummerNationals on Tuesday, August 5 as one of the season’s biggest races, and said it’s been a popular move.

“The fans are so excited to have them back,” said Robinson. “They’ll get to see drivers that they don’t normally get to see unless they travel, so it’s nice to bring these drivers to our backyard and the fans will all be able to see them. It’ll be the who’s-who.”

The Big Blocks used to run at Ransomville on a regular basis, but the track moved away from the series in favor of the 358 Modifieds and Sportsman Modifieds. “The fans have been asking for that race to return,” said Robinson, “so this year we decided to bring that back and it’s been receiving a lot of very positive reviews and a lot of people are very excited to have that event back of the schedule for 2014.”

Another popular race at the track is the Battle at the Border on Wednesday, July 2, a $5,200-to-win Super DIRTcar 358 Series race that brings out the fans and the drivers. According to Robinson, “It’s been one of our top races on the schedule for the last five years – very popular event, it brings in a lot of out-of-towners and invading drivers.”

Fans of sprint car racing will have two chances to see the Patriot Sprint Tour in 2014: Friday, June 6 and Friday, August 1. “Our fans really love the sprint cars, so we’re going to give them to them twice,” said Robinson.
