Lady Warriors take doubleheader

Rachel Allen had a big Monday, striking out a combined 22 as the Tonawanda Lady Warriors earned a pair of victories over the Lackawanna Steelers in an ECIC IV softball doubleheader.

Allen struck out 10 in the opener, a 3-0 win. She also went 1 for 2 at the plate with an RBI. Rachel Warthling knocked in two and Haley Slater had a double and an RBI.

In Game Two, Sydney Myers plated the winner with a bunt single in the bottom of the eighth in a 3-2 victory. Allen struck out 12 and hit a pair of singles. Slater hit a double and Warthling pushed across two runs.

The wins were Tonawanda’s first of the season. The Lady Warriors now sit at 2-2 overall and 2-1 in league.

Niagara Falls 10, N. Tonawanda 5

Toni Polk cleared the fence twice Monday with a pair of bombs and Carli Leo brought in the go-ahead runs with a single for the Wolverines (4-1 NFL). Shannon Hammer launched a two-run homer for the Lady Jacks (3-2 NFL).

Ken West 8, Lew-Port 3

Hannah Post had two hits and knocked in four runs in Monday’s win, while Allie Chimera added two hits and two runs scored for the Blue Devils (3-1, 3-0 NFL).

Grand Island 3, Ken East 0

Alley Cutting tossed a perfect game Monday for the Vikings (1-5, 1-4 NFL). Kelsey Harrigan ran down a ball in the right-center gap, while Scarlett Whitman, Leah Geis and Lauren Rogoza shut down the Bulldog’s bunting game. Ken East (1-4, 0-4 NFL) turned a pair of double plays, with Gabby Johns, Sara Taylor, Chelsea Masich and Julia Snitzer taking part.

Nia.-Wheatfield 13, Lockport 7

Katie Mazierski launched a tie-breaking home run in the top of the third, propelling the Falcons to a Monday win. N-W erased a 4-0 first-inning deficit with a four-spot of its own in the second. A seven-run top of the sixth clinched the win.
