HS ROUNDUP: Lumberjacks ground Falcons in NFL meet

Ashley Owens struck out nine in a complete-game four-hitter and Kelsy Palistrant had a home run and four RBIs for the Spartans (13-2, 10-1 ECIC II). Owens, Aren Schwab and Valerie Clark each had two hits.

Nia.-Wheatfield 27, Ken East 3

Katie Mazierski (4-5, 4 RBIs), Bri Krawczyk (3-6, 4 RBIs) and Danielle Chatten (2-2, 4 RBIs) each had huge days at the plate for the Falcons (10-2 NFL), who hit .523 as a team for the game. N-W can clinch the league title with wins over Lockport and Grand Island this week.


Nia.-Wheatfield 16, Grand Island 4

Emma Falter had four goals and four assists while Alexis Becker and Madelyn Gansworth both scored hat tricks for the Falcons (11-2, 8-0 NFL). Backup goaltender Allison Rickard made seven saves to earn the win.


Lew-Port 3, Lockport 2

Yash Maheshwari battled back from match point three times, eventually completing a comeback in third singles in a continuation of a Niagara Frontier League boys tennis match that was postponed due to weather from May 3. With the win, the Lancers (12-1 NFL) clinch at least a share of the league title for the first time since 1978.

Grand Island 3, North Tonawanda 2

Pairings of Wyatt Mock-Tommy Corrao and Mike Paternostro-McClain Erhard swept doubles for the Vikings (9-3 NFL). Andrew LeMar and Greg Hastings won first and second singles for the Lumberjacks (5-8 NFL).
