Ken West's Miller and Fron sign Letters of Intent

Tonawanda News — It was a proud day for Kenmore West High School.

Charlotte Miller and Adam Fron, in front of a healthy showing of local media, officially signed their Letters of Intent to play sports at the collegiate level.

Only six percent of high school student athletes move on to play collegiate sports at the NCAA Division I, II or III levels.

Miller, a captain on the Lady Blue Devils softball team, signed to play for Division I University at Buffalo. Fron made it official that he was committed to Ithaca College to play football.

“I am so excited to play with UB,” said Miller. “All of those girls are so good and the University is such a great place to go for education.”

Miller has played varsity for four years. She earned a captain spot on Matt Chimera’s Lady Blue Devils squad in 2013, pitching and playing infield for the successful program. She earned that spot after her 2012 performance landed her on the Niagara Frontier League’s second team.

In 2013, Miller’s superb pitching and hitting stats landed her on the All-Western New York first team as well as the title of the News player of the year.

Over her career at Ken West, Miller batted an outstanding .420 and batted in 50 runs.

Although her statistics were elite, what makes Charlotte such a special player is her attitude in the dugout.

Miller provided advice and encouragement to all members of her team, never showing an ounce of quit even in the most frustrating of times.

“It’s been great to watch her progress over the years,” said Ken West softballl coach Matt Chimera. “In her seventh, eighth and ninth grade years she earned the nickname wild thing because she had trouble finding the plate. In the last couple years she stepped it up. You don’t make All-Western New York without serious talent and skill.”
