High School Sports: Shotwell brothers lead Bulldogs to golf win

Tonawanda News — Kenmore East freshman Ben Shotwell earned medalist honors in the Bulldogs’ NFL-opening match against Niagara-Wheatfield on Wednesday afternoon, shooting a 38 to help his team to a 245-253 win.

Ricky Shotwell put up a 38 in the No. 1 spot for Ken East (1-0 NFL) and Bulldogs coach Tim Robbins was pleased with the overall performance from his team on Wednesday. Zach Jakes shot a 40 and Robbie McNamara added a 42 for the Bulldogs.

The Falcons’ (0-1 NFL) No. 1 golfer John Anderson shot a team-best 40, while Noah Wrazin and John McCasey both shot a 41 on the day for Nia.-Wheatfield.

Lockport 257, Niagara Falls 293

Jack Igoe medalled for the Lions (1-0 NFL), shooting a 39 at Lockport Town and Country Club. J.J. Napoli added a 41, while Patrick Sparks shot a 42. James Spanbauer led the Wolverines (0-1) with a 44.

North Tonawanda 267, Lew-Port 281

Logan St. Cyr shot a 39 to medal for the Lumberjacks (1-0 NFL) at Deerwood Golf Course. Devin Donohue hit a 40 in the win, while Justin Quinn and Matt Schiavi led the Lancers (0-1) with 44s.

Grand Island 278, Ken West 283

Kevin Borowicz medalled for the Vikings (1-0 NFL), shooting a 38 at Sheridan Park Golf Club. Brett Phillips led the Blue Devils (0-1) with a 43.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tonawanda 8, Lackawanna 0

Hope Balling had two goals and two assists while Jordan Johnson and Kalyn Compeau each had two goals and an assist as the Warriors (2-1, 1-0 ECIC IV) took their league opener. Ashley Ostrowki added a goal and an assist, Kristen Carsen scored and Alanna Herne earned the shutout in net, making three saves.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

North Tonawanda 3, Ken West 0

Gabby Hansen had 18 digs and 15 kills, Danielle Kenney notched 12 digs and Rachel Malone hit six aces for the Lady Jacks (1-0 NFL) in the 25-22, 25-10, 27-25 win. Abby Borkowski hit five aces and had 12 assists for the Blue Devils (0-1).

Ken East 3, Lew-Port 0

Julia Snitzer tallied 11 points, four aces and seven digs, while Gabbie Johns had seven points, an ace and four blocks for the Bulldogs (1-0 NFL), who won 25-22, 25-19 and 25-17. Morgan Boss hit 10 points with seven assists and seven digs for the Lancers (0-1).
