A National Family Fun Day, with games, face painting, fire department representatives, food, balloons and information on veterans’ and other community services will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sikora American Legion Post, 950 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda. The event is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary of Sikora Post. Admission is a non-perishable food item for the North Tonawanda Food Pantry.
Tonawanda AARP Chapter 4574 will meet at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the VFW on Elgin Street, City of Tonawanda. Final plans for the Christmas party on Dec. 10 will be discussed. Payment must be made at this meeting. Lunch committee members are Ruth Tamberlin, Mary Lashaway, Peggy Marohn, Elena Horwitz, Rita Brompton and Rita Daniels. Members are asked to bring items for the food pantry and small toys, hats and mittens for the needy.
The Red Kettle campaign, the most important fundraiser for the Salvation Army, is in need of volunteer bell ringers at a variety of sites in the Tonawandas and the Town of Tonawanda. For more information or to volunteer, call the Tonawanda Salvation Army at 693-3110.
The “Little Read” Jazzbaby will be the program for Family Fun Night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the City of Tonawanda Public Library, 333 Main St. The event is for children ages 3 to 7 and their families. Registration is required and may be made in person or by calling 693-5043.
“Aliens in the Attic,” a 2009 adventure family film produced by 20th Century Fox and Regency Enterprises, will be shown at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Riviera Theatre, 67 Webster St., North Tonawanda. The show is part of the YWCA of the Tonawandas Family Film Series. Tickets are $2.
The Retired Men of the Tonawandas will meet at noon Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 149 Broad St., City of Tonawanda. Captain Stephen Lyle will speak about the activities of the Salvation Army. Bring a bag lunch, coffee and tea will be provided. All are invited.
A presentation on pre-planning funeral arrangements by representatives of Elmlawn Cemetery and Lester Wedekindt Funeral Home will be given from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Ken-Ton Chamber of Commerce, 3411 Delaware Ave., Kenmore. Refreshments and giveaways will be featured.
