NORTH TONAWANDA

Pastor’s reception topic of Altar Society

Our Lady of Czestochowa Altar Society will discuss a reception for Reverend Dennis Fronckowiak, OLC’s pastor, at a 7 p.m. meeting on Thursday in the school hall on Center Avenue, North Tonawanda.

Hostesses are Mary Sattleberg, Dorothy Muniak, Jennie Pietek and Betty Grzebinski.



Museum plans Mother Goose Day, open house

Mother Goose Day will be celebrated from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, 180 Thompson St., North Tonawanda.

Mother Goose will read to the children, sing songs and play games. Each child will receive two carousel rides and two crafts.

All Mother Goose activities are included with paid admission of $5 a, $4 for seniors and $2.50 for a child.

From 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the museum welcomes teachers and parents to a teachers’ open house to tour the museum and explore the traveling trunks offered for use in the classroom.

An open forum discussion will focus on how the museum can best help teachers meet curriculum requirements. The event is free.



TONAWANDA

‘Bus Stop’ on stage at high school

“Bus Stop” will be on stage at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Tonawanda High School on Hinds Street.

Amanda Woomer is the student director. Tickets are $5, $3 for students and seniors.

The public is invited.



TOWN OF TONAWANDA

Parishes join for GriefShare support group

GriefShare, a weekly video seminar support group for people grieving the loss of a loved one will be hosted at St. Andrew’s and St. John the Baptist parishes in the Town of Tonawanda.

Meetings will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesdays through June 4 at St. Andrew’s Church, Elmwood Avenue and Sheridan Drive.

Reservations are not necessary.

Ken-Ton Showcase offers fun, information

The annual Showcase, a business, home and health show sponsored by the Ken-Ton Chamber of Commerce, will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lincoln Park Arena, 1200 Parker Blvd., Town of Tonawanda.

In addition to the trade show, entertainment will include pony rides, a petting zoo, rock climbing wall, bounce house, food tents and arts and crafts.

Healthy Strides Wellness Fair will offer attendees an opportunity to improve their health and be eligible for cash and prizes.

Give-a-ways, cooking demonstrations and entertainment will also be offered as well as the SPCA’s Whisker Wag’n.



WHEATFIELD

Garden club schedules trip to North Carolina

Wheatfield Garden Club has scheduled a bus trip to Asheville, N.C. to the Biltmore Estate from June 15 through 20.

The trip includes five nights, breakfasts and dinners. There will be various stops in the surrounding area including a train ride, a twilight cruise and a visit to the Cherokee Indian Museum.

Wood carving demonstration planned

Doug Bathke from the Herschell Carrousel Museum in North Tonawanda will present a wood carving demonstration at the 9:30 a.m. meeting Friday of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens at the town center, 2800 Church Road.

Bathke is a retired history teacher and a member of the museum’s board of trustees. He will also give a brief history of the woods and tools used to create the various carvings at the museum.
