NORTH TONAWANDA

‘Few Friends’ focus of Partners in Art show

“A Few Friends,” an art show featuring art work created by Irene Andrzejewski, Rosemary D’Agostino, Karen Foegen, Bernadette Franklin, Joan Horn, Terri McLellan, Coni Minneci, Roberta Remy, Patricia Sciandra, Joan Shaw, Glenna Sternin and Jody Ziehm, will open on Saturday.

The opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. will take place at Partners in Art Gallery, 74 Webster St., North Tonawanda.

The show will continue through May 30. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or by appointment.

The show is free and open to the public.



Volunteers sought for Project Pride planting

Project Pride and Oliver Street Pride volunteers will meet at the Sweeney Street Greenhouse at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, to plant flowers for the hanging baskets that will later adorn Oliver and Webster streets.

All are invited.

Elks Club schedules fish dinner

A fish fry along with a wide range of food are served from 4 to 9 p.m. every Friday at the Elks Club, Main and Sweeney streets, North Tonawanda.

Dinners are catered by Domenico’s. In addition, live music isffeatured every Friday and Saturday evening.

On Monday, a jam session with the Hurricanes is planned and karaoke with Debbie is offered on Wednesday.

All are welcome.



St. Peter’s UCC hosts rummage sale

A rummage sale is planned on Friday and Saturday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 1208 Oliver St., North Tonawanda

The sale is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday with a 50 cent donation and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday featuring a $3 bag sale.

The sale is sponsored by the Women’s Fellowship.

Pledges sought for Coaches vs. Cancer

Coaches vs. Cancer, a fundraising effort of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, is seeking contribution.

In the City of Tonawanda, Chris Slauson is helping raise funds for the effort though donations and pledges.

Live music featured at Simply Sue’s Tea Shop

Music by Emmett Green on keyboard playing Christian and jazz music will be featured at 7 p.m. Friday at Simply Sue’s Tea Shop, 44 Main St., City of Tonawanda.

The shop will have extended hours until 10 p.m. offering coffee, tea, desserts and root beer floats.

The Early Bird Bookworm shop on the lower level will also be open.



KEN-TON

Garden tour applications available

Entry forms are available for the 2008 Ken-Ton Garden Tour scheduled Aug. 2 and 3.

Sponsored by the Ken-Ton Garden Tour committee, the event is open to residents and business owners who wish to invite the public to view their gardens.

Camp Special Place opens registration

Applications are being accepted for Camp Special Place for children with special needs between the ages of 5 and 15. The camp is offered through the Town of Tonawanda Youth, Parks and Recreation Department.

The camp runs weekdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 7 through Aug. 15 in Mang Park Community Center in Kenmore.

Resident fee is $80 per two-week session and non-resident fee is $125.

Space is limited and registration is required. For an application, call the recreation office at 831-1001.



Widow, widowers group schedules event

New Beginnings, a group for widows and widowers, will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday in Cotter Hall at Blessed Sacrament Church, 263 Claremont Ave., Kenmore.

Pancake breakfast set at Sanborn legion post

A pancake breakfast will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Sanborn American Legion Post 969, Pearl Street in Sanborn.

Tickets are $6, $2 for ages 5 to 11 and free for those under age 5.



Rummage sale planned in Pekin

Hope United Methodist Church will host its semi-annual rummage and baked goods sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, 2914 Upper Mountain Road, Pekin.
