NORTH TONAWANDA
AARP picnic planned in Pinewoods Park
The annual picnic of the North Tonawanda AARP Chapter 3526 will take place at noon Tuesday in Pinewoods Park, North Tonawanda.
Those attending are asked to bring their own beverage with coffee and tea available.
Bingo, games and prizes will be offered during the afternoon and those attending are reminded to bring cards for a choice of card games.
At 5 p.m., hot dogs will be grilled for dinner.

SPCA hosts free rabies vaccination clinic
A free rabies vaccination clinic will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the SPCA, 205 Ensminger Road, Town of Tonawanda.
The clinic is provided by the Erie County Department of Health, the Niagara Frontier Veterinarian Society and SPCA.
Brighton Place offers Story Magic
Story Magic with storyteller Merri Lee Debany will be presented at 2 p.m. Monday at the Kenmore Branch Library, 180 Delaware Road.
At 2 p.m. Wednesday, the program will be repeated at Kenilworth Branch Library, 318 Montrose Ave.

Interviewing skills honed at Everywoman center
Interviewing styles, protocol and common questions and answers will be discussed from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Everywoman Opportunity Center Inc., 899 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst.

Assertion workshop offered
The Womanfocus Department of Preventionfocus Inc. will present Bold and Balanced, a six-week workshop series for women age 18 years and older.
The series provides women with basic tools necessary to engage successfully in the lifelong process of recognizing and expressing feelings, giving and receiving criticism in positive ways and saying “no” in a clear, appropriate manner.
This worship is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Sept. 9 at Preventionfocus Inc., 69 Linwood Ave., Buffalo.

Drive benefits Habitat for Humanity
Valu Home Centers recently presented a check for $182,134 to Habitat for Humanity raised in a recent drive in all Valu locations.
All money raised in the drive goes back to the communities in which they were raised.
The Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity chapter, which also includes the Tonawandas, received $12,430.
In addition, Jim Hoydic of Erie, Pa. was the winner of a 2008 Ford Focus. His was one of more than 182,000 entries in the sweepstakes.
Donation helps poor in Peru
Dr. Kenneth D. Anthone of Anthone Eye Center in the Town of Tonawanda facilitated the donation of a Phaco machine from Bausch and Lomb Inc. of Rochester to be used for cataract surgery for poor elderly in Peru.
The machine, valued at $115,000, is a state of the art and most up to date equipment for cataract surgery.
