Young bicyclist hit by car

Tonawanda News — An 11-year-old Tonawanda boy was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in the City of Tonawanda on Thursday afternoon, but his injuries were not life-threatening and he was later released from Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

The accident occurred at 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Delton Street.

"Based on our investigation, he had cut across the roadway. One car had slowed for him and the car from the next lane struck his bicycle and he flew off," Capt. Fred Foels said.

The boy was taken to Kenmore Mercy Hospital, and although his injuries are unknown, he was released from the hospital later Thursday night. Town of Tonawanda accident investigators and City of Tonawanda police reported to the scene and reconstructed the accident.

"It doesn't look like the driver is going to get a ticket," Foels said, noting that the investigators were on the scene until 4:30 p.m. "She was not speeding and she didn't run a red light."
