Tonawanda News — The City of Tonawanda School Board appointed Sharon Stuart and Jennifer Mysliwy to the positions of president and vice president at its reorganizational meeting Tuesday night.
Mysliwy nominated Stuart for the presidency, and the board did not offer any other suggestions. Stuart, who is an administrative assistant at the Dietrich Funeral Home, was appointed unanimously.
Board member Danielle Opalinski, who won a seat in the May election, nominated Mysliwy for the vice presidency. No other nominations were offered, and Mysliwy, who is a stay at home mother and works at MusicalFare Theater, was also appointed unanimously.
Stuart served as the board president from 2010 until 2012 when she lost the position in a vote to Jackie Smilinich. Mysliwy served as vice president from 2011 to 2012, when Demelt Shaw beat her out in a narrow vote.
Both are serving their second terms and have two years remaining in their three-year terms before they are up for re-election.
The board’s new members, Fred Busch and Geraldine Angelo, were also sworn in Tuesday night. Busch is a businessman and was formerly a Washington, D.C., police officer. His goals include creating a more detailed and realistic annual budget.
Angelo is a lifelong resident of Tonawanda, and is a mother of three.
The board also appointed Bonnie Jayne as the district clerk at an annual stipend of $4,136 and set the schedule for the meetings, which are generally scheduled for the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library.Contact reporter Jessica Bagley at 693-1000 ext. 4150, or follow her on Twitter at @JessicaLBagley
