Tonawanda News — A bicyclist who was riding on the Twin City Memorial Highway late Monday was hit by a car and suffered severe injuries, police said.
Tracy R. Maracle, 43, of Maple Street, Lockport, was traveling southbound near Fillmore Avenue in the City of Tonawanda when the accident occurred at 11:30 p.m.
“He was in a lane of traffic, heading toward the 290 when a car heading southbound hit him,” Capt. Fredric Foels said. “The bike went one way, he went the other way.”
Maracle broke vertebrae in his neck and back and is listed in serious condition at Erie County Medical Center.
Due to snow tracks in the road, traffic officers determined that Maracle was riding in the center of the left passing lane. The driver of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox that hit Maracle has had his vehicle impounded for a safety check, but he will likely not be charged.
“There were no signs of intoxication or anything like that,” Foels said.
