TONAWANDA: Man arrested for tossing crack pipe

Tonawanda News — State police operating as part of the Buffalo Strike Force arrested a Tonawanda man Friday after he allegedly threw a portion of a crack pipe out the window of his car.

Steven Kowalczyk, 34, was driving on Niagara Street at Forest Avenue in Buffalo Friday when troopers saw him toss an item out the window of his car. They pulled him over on a littering violation and retrieved the item, which was later determined to be the screen on a crack cocaine pipe.

Troopers then noticed a crack rock sitting on the passenger seat floor. A subsequent search yielded two more crack rocks in small plastic bags, troopers said in a release.

Kowalczyk allegedly admitted the pipe was used for smoking crack.

He was charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and held for court.
