Tonawanda News — Director of the Ken-Ton Parent Alliance Jill O'Malley has announced that she will run for a Ken-Ton Board of Education seat this spring.

"My husband and I have discussed it and feel that this step is necessary to continue our efforts to advocate for the children of Ken-Ton," she wrote in an email.

O'Malley is also the founder of the Ken-Ton Closet and serves as a professor at Erie Community College. She has spoken out against the consolidation project, which aims to save money and rightsize the district in the face of dwindling enrollment and state aid. The board is set to decide whether it will vote on one of the options this spring.

The election is set for May 20. Those interested in running for the three-year term must obtain 65 signatures before being approved as a candidate. Two seats will be up for election this year, and current Trustees Judy Frank and Jeff Rickman have not announced whether they will seek another term.
