Tonawanda News — Town of Tonawanda police said they have located 15-year-old Valentina Kolock, the Kenmore West student who had been missing since Jan. 30.
“She was located in downstate New York,” police spokesman Capt. Joseph Carosi said in a statement. “She was not abducted — it appears that she ran away.”
Authorities said they are still determining whether criminal charges will be levied. Exact details, including where she was located and who she was with, are not being released. Police said more details will be released as they become available.
Kolock was found Tuesday afternoon, and had been missing since she did not report for a midterm examination.
Carosi thanked the force for their efforts in finding Kolock.
“The smallest of tips were pursued with great vigor,” he said in the release. “Town detectives worked very hard in seeing this investigation through to a positive outcome.”
He said police received hundreds of tips and hints from the public after the media and residents publicized her disappearance.
“The relentless assistance of the media, including social media, was of great importance in helping us locate Valentina,” he said.
