Town readies tax bill to send to residents

Tonawanda News — The Town of Tonawanda and Erie County tax bill will be mailed out on or before Jan. 15, according to Town Clerk Marguerite Greco.

Town property owners can submit payments as early as Jan. 15.

“We have multiple payment options to assist taxpayers in fulfilling their town and county responsibilities by the Feb. 18 deadline,” Greco said.

She added that those payment options include an upgraded online payment page that is easier to use, faster and in some cases, has lower usage fees.

Residents wishing to pay by credit card may visit the town’s website, and click “Pay Taxes On-Line.” Taxes may be paid online by using Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card (2.45 percent service fee), by Visa debit card ($3.95 flat fee) or by electronic check ($1.75 flat fee, when using an electronic check allow two weeks for processing).

Service fees are collected by the credit card provider, not the Town. Online payments using the town website post immediately, the deadline for online payments is 11:58 p.m., Feb. 18.

If tax payments are being made on-line, through your bank, payments must be received at least 10 days prior to due date. These checks are not electronically deposited to the tax office account.

Tax payments by check or money order may be mailed to the town clerk’s office, 2919 Delaware Ave., Room 14, Municipal Building, Kenmore, N.Y. 14217-2308.

To pay in person, the office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and until 8 p.m. Feb. 18. Credit card payments may also be made in person at the clerk’s office.

Additionally, a drop-box is located on the Delaware Road side of the Municipal Building which may be used to pay taxes any time day or night, including weekends.

Payments made after the deadline will be subject to late fees and penalties.

Any payment received in person or postmarked (U.S. Post Office only) after that day will be assessed penalties and interest as set forth on the back of your tax bill. The date of payment cannot be determined by the date of the check or the date the funds are with-drawn from your account.
