Tonawanda News — A Town of Tonawanda police officer on his way to a first aid call was injured in an accident on Tuesday, Lt. Nick Bado said.

Officer Mark Scranton was traveling westbound on Highland Avenue at about 11 a.m. when the accident occurred.

“His lights and sirens were on,” Bado, citing a video of the collision, said. “He approached the intersection at Colvin Boulevard, slows down to a near stop, and you can see everybody stop. He felt like he was clear to go.”

Scranton then proceeded into the intersection, where he collided with another vehicle.

The officer went to the hospital and was treated for a hand injury. Bado was unsure whether Scranton is out of work, but said workers’ compensation paperwork had been filled out.

The driver of the other car, a Chevy Impala, complained of shoulder pain, but was treated at the scene and a call for an ambulance was canceled.

The accident is under investigation and no tickets have been issued yet.
