Kenmore West honors alumni

Tonawanda News — Kenmore West has inducted two alumni, Barbara Weaver and Donald Weaver, into its Corridor of Honor, a press release from the school states.

Barbara Weaver, class of 1956, and Donald Weaver, class of 1953, have been involved in disaster response work since 1980. They began as volunteer response consultants for the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

They have also worked for the Church World Service and the World Council of Churches, and have been on the American Red Cross Critical Response Team since 1989.

“Together they have responded to the school shooting at Columbine High School, the Oklahoma City bombing, the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Sandy in 2012 to name a few,” the press release from the school states.

Barbara and Don, who still live in Tonawanda, have been married for 57 years. They have three children, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. Other Corridor of Honor members include CNN television news anchor Wolf Blitzer, NASA astronaut Edward Gibson, Antarctic explorer Walker O. Smith and local historian John Percy.
