Free rabies clinic in Tonawanda

As local and federal officials continue to flood Niagara and Erie counties with rabies vaccines in response to a recent rash of infected animals, a free clinic will be offered after Labor Day to further combat the issue. 

Free rabies vaccinations will be tendered to dogs, cats and ferrets from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 5, at the Erie County SPCA location on Ensminger Road in the Town of Tonawanda. 

Delays expected


Paving will begin Monday on NY Route 425 on the Twin Cities Memorial Highway in Tonawanda between Colvin Boulevard and Tonawanda Creek, according to The New York State Department of Transportation. 

Both day and nighttime work will the project is expected to last approximately two weeks.


Woman killed

in house fire

A 57-year old McLelland Road woman died in a house fire on Thurday night.

Kathleen Trotter was found dead in her home as volunteers from five area companies responded. She was the only person in the house.

The Niagara County Fire Investigation Team reported that nothing appears suspicious. The investigation is continuing.

Miller Hose, Olcott Fire Co., South Wilson, Barker and Wrights Corners Fire Co. were called to the fire about 8 p.m.
