Tonawanda News — Police and fire officials responded to an ammonia leak Wednesday morning at FMC Industrial Chemicals on Sawyer Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda.
Police Lt. Nick Bado said Dunlop workers who were smelling a foul order called police about 10 a.m.
The Sheridan Park Volunteer Fire Department tracked the smell to FMC, Bado said, and the company was already managing the leak.
“It was coming from an empty tank with only trace amounts of ammonia in it,” Bado said. “It was being released through some sort of valve.”
Officials said the leak was not a hazard and the company’s building was not evacuated. Fire and police officials were on the scene for about an hour.
“Everything was mostly precautionary,” Bado said.
