Q&A: NT girl sings anthem at Bisons game
By Neale Gulley E-mail Neale
The Tonawanda News
Singing the National Anthem in front of hundreds of people is enough to make anyone a bit nervous, but that wasn’t going to stop 11-year-old Victoria Buscaglia of North Tonawanda from hitting the high notes at Sunday’s Buffalo Bisons game.
It was kids’ day at Dunn Tire Park, and Buscaglia was chosen to highlight that theme at the team’s annual anthem tryouts in Buffalo about a month ago. It’s not the first time she has wowed the judges — she was the winner of last year’s NT’s Got Talent competition. Her love of music has continued to take off ever since, leading her to participate in performances like the All-County Chorus in January.
Buscaglia, a sixth-grader at Drake Elementary, talked about her experience singing the anthem at Sunday’s game for this week’s Q&A.

QUESTION: How long have you been practicing for this? Were you nervous singing in front of so many people?
ANSWER: I’ve been practicing since I first heard I got picked for it (about two weeks ago). I was very nervous because they had a two-second delay, so when I sang the music, two seconds later (I heard) the words.

Q: Did everyone clap when you were finished?
A: It was a big cheer and I felt really good for myself. It’s a big thing for a kid who likes to sing.
•••
Q: Do you take singing lessons? Who is your favorite singer?
A: I used to, at Matt’s Music. I like Carrie Underwood because she sings country and I like her songs.
•••
Q: Is the National Anthem a hard song to sing? Where is it on a scale of one to 10?
A: It’s in the middle. It’s sort of hard because of the high pitches and because you have to sing them for a few seconds. I would say it’s a seven.
•••
Q: What’s the hardest part?
A: When you have to sing “and the rockets red glare.”
•••
Q: Did you meet any interesting people?
see Q&A on page 4a
Q&A ...
continued from page 1a
A: Not really, I gave a high-five to a few of (the players).
•••
Q: Are you a baseball fan?
A: Yes, I sort of am but what I’m really a fan of is the Sabres.
•••
Q: What’s your favorite baseball team?
A: The Red Sox, I’ve probably seen them at least 12 times on TV.
•••
Q: What’s your next performance going to be?
A: My next performance is probably at the Bisons game again. I was nervous but the next time I won’t be nervous because I know what it’s like.
•••
Q: Tell me about the moment you found out you were going to be singing at the game?
A: (My mom) said “I have some good news for you,” ... my friends were screaming, and I was like “I get to do it and it’s my first year trying out?”
•••
Q: Do you watch the show American Idol?
A: I like it because there are a few people who could do better on it and there are also people that are phenomenal, and some of the remarks that Simon makes, there are some that are good and some that are bad.
